Irish Crochet Lace artist Máire Treanor will appear at the Library to share her insights on the history and development of Irish Crochet. Samples of her own work as well as vintage pieces from her collection will be on display.
12:30 – 1:30 PM: Free presentation
Maire traces the origins of Irish Crochet lace, from Famine times to its present resurgence as a global design trend. Book signing will follow (copies of her book will be available for purchase: “Clones Lace – The Story and Patterns of an Irish Crochet”. Admission is free but spaces are limited and tickets are required. Light refreshments will be served.
2:00 – 5:00 PM: Hands-on Workshop for experienced crocheters
Máire will demonstrate techniques and motifs of Irish Crochet, particularly the Clones Knot, and will assist participants in creating a simple take-home project. Copies of Máire’s book: “Clones Lace – The Story and Patterns of an Irish Crochet” will be available for purchase. Alternatively, the book can be ordered in advance directly from Máire. Materials list will be emailed to all registrants. Some supplies will also be available for purchase at the Workshop.
