Travel Program

We planned a wonderful, interesting and active holiday for you, which will start on 14th November in Jakarta.

By making your own way to Jakarta you will have the freedom to plan your own arrival and departure, and take the opportunity to explore this great city, prior to our journey. You will be expected to meet the group on 16th November. Time and place will be communicated closer to the date.

Transport over land from one location to the next has been arranged. We will be travelling by minibus with a professional chauffeur.

Program November 2026

14 Nov. (day 1): Bogor, South of Jakarta, Witnessing the silk producing process

Our cultural textile journey begins in Jakarta with a heartwarming welcome at Chic Quarter hotel.

Our journey starts with a visit to Rumah Sutera Alam caipus, an educational silk center in Bogor. Here we will be learning about the whole silk producing process, from mulberry cultivation and silkworm breeding (Bombyx Mori) to cocoon processing, silk reeling and traditional weaving.

Surrounded by natural leaves, we will participate in our first workshop of leaf-printing and celebrate creativity, sustainability, and the beauty of handmade traditions.

15 Nov. (day 2) Pekalongan

Today we travel from Jakarta to Pekalongan, the city of batik and home to masterful weavers.

Our highlight: a special visit to Griya Batik, a traditional artisan workshop, known for its traditional batik techniques. A day of connection, craftsmanship, and cultural exchange.

16 Nov (day 3): Pekalongan, Indigo Innovation

Our journey continues in Pekalongan, where we embrace the city's rich textile heritage. The highlight of the day is our visit to Craft Denim Indonesia, an innovative studio preserving traditional ATBM weaving techniques. Their commitment to eco-friendly practices and cultural preservation earned them recognition at the INA Craft exhibition as an innovative youth-led enterprise.

After lunch we continue our day of exploration at Tintocri Idigo Natural Dyes where we witness the surprising process of indigo dyeing and dipping

17 Nov. (day 4): Magelang, Morning at Majestic Borobudur

We begin the day with a soul-stirring visit to Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple and a symbol of timeless beauty. This sacred site once witnessed a remarkable moment in Indonesian ecoprint history—1001 ecoprinted fabrics were proudly unfurled across the temple grounds, celebrating unity, nature, and creativity and are refeatured every year at the Enchanting Ecoprint Indonesia.

Afternoon: The Indigo Journey at Puspita Indigo

After our visit to Borobudur, we journey into the highlands. Surrounded by breathtaking views of mountains and cornfields, we dive deep into the world of Indigo at Puspita Indigo, where blue magic begins in the soil. We visit the lush Indigofera plantation, witness the transformation of fresh leaves into dye paste, and learn the full process behind one of nature’s most iconic colors..

Participants will create their own Shihori fabric, blending traditional techniques with the magic of nature’s colors. A peaceful, hands-on afternoon that connects craft, landscape, and legacy.

22 Nov. (day 9): Cultural & Coastal Wonders of Sumba

Today, we delve into the heart of Sumba`s rich heritage and breathtaking landscapes.

Our journey begins at Ratenggaro Traditional Village, renowned for its towering thatched-roof houses. Surrounding these structures are over 300 megalithic tombs, bearing testament to ancient traditions and the Marapu belief system still practiced today.

Next, we visit Mandorak Beach, framed by majestic limestone cliffs, pristine white sands and turquoise waters. The natural rock formations is perfect for relaxation and photography.

Our final stop is Waikuri Lagoon, a hidden gem in Kalenarongo Village. This saltwater lagoon is ideal for swimming. A mix of warm and cool temperatures in different parts of the  lagoon offers a refreshing experience. Today offers a harmonious blend of cultural immersion and natural beauty.

After our warm goodbyes, you can decide to stay and prolong your holiday any way you prefer, or fly back to Jakarta to make your way back home.

Partners

Non-participating partners are welcome on this journey. There are many activities to enjoy together with your partner between workshops, but enough time to explore other interesting spots. We will offer alternative activities.

18 Nov. (day 5): Ecocrafting

This day we will gather at Visan Ecocraft for the preparation of some fabrics for our printing session in Bali.  This mordanting process will open the textile fibers to receive the colours and tannins of the plant material and preserve the image.

After lunch we will have the afternoon off.                                                            A day of roots, rhythm, and relaxation.

19 Nov. (day 6): Bali Arrival & Eco Retreat 

After a scenic flight from Yogyakarta to Denpasar, we journey into the tranquil highlands to check in at Bali Eco Village. Nestled in the lush mountains of Belok Sidan, this eco-lodge offers a serene escape surrounded by nature.

Upon arrival, guests can opt for a soothing traditional Balinese massage, allowing the stresses of travel to melt away. The afternoon is yours to relax—wander through the green gardens, breathe in the fresh mountain air, or simply unwind at the swimming pool.

As evening falls, enjoy a wholesome dinner crafted from local ingredients, reflecting the hotel`s commitment to sustainability.

20 Nov. (day 7): Nature-Inspired Ecoprint 

In the peaceful surroundings of Marigold Ecoprint, participants collect leaves and flowers from the lush gardens and nearby forest paths. With each step, we reconnect with nature and honor its quiet beauty. We gather under open skies to create ecoprint on fabric, guided by the rhythms of the earth. The colors, the scents, the silence—everything becomes part of the art. A mindful morning of creativity, rooted in the land.

After  lunch at Marigold Ecoprint, we enjoy another afternoon of free time, to spend at the beach or in the shopping centre, both at walking distance

21 Nov. (day 8): From Bali to Sumba

We begin the day with a flight from Denpasar to Tambolaka, Sumba—a land of rugged beauty and living traditions. Upon arrival, we check in at Ella Hotel, a cozy resting place that blends simplicity with warm island hospitality. Today is a travel and transition day—time to settle in, breathe the dry floral air of Sumba, and prepare for the textile treasures waiting to be discovered.

23 Nov. (day 10): From Weekalo Waterfall to Waingapu: Roots, Rivers; Natural Colors

The day begins with a refreshing visit to Weekalo Waterfall, a hidden gem nestled among rice fields—where water flows gently and time seems to slow down.

We then travel across stunning landscapes to reach Waingapu, the center of textile legacy. Our afternoon is filled with hands-on learning as we extract natural dyes from mengkudu root (Morinda citrifolia) and simplocos leaves, creating vibrant reds and yellows. The freshly prepared dye baths are used to color threads, honoring the traditional techniques of Sumba’s ikat artisans. As evening falls, we check in at the serene Padadita Hotel.

24 Nov. (day 11): Across the Islands, to Labuan Bajo

This travel day is filled with island crossings and new horizons.

We depart Waingapu and fly back to Denpasar, then continue our journey to the gateway of Komodo—Labuan Bajo. Upon arrival, we check in at the Jayakarta Hotel, where the sea breeze greets us and the sunset paints the Flores sky.

Tomorrow, a new chapter begins—of oceans, dragons, and the vibrant crafts of East Nusa Tenggara.

25 Nov. (day 12): Labuan Bajo, From Cotton Fields to Colorful Threads

Today, we head into the highlands of Melo Village, where tradition lives in the rhythm of the land.

We visit a local cotton farm, walking through fields where soft fibers are still hand-picked with care—just as they’ve been for generations.

The journey continues at Rumah Tenun Baku Peduli, a community-based weaving house committed to heritage and sustainability. Here, we learn how to prepare natural dyes from local plants and dip freshly spun threads into color baths that carry the spirit of Flores.

26 Nov. (day 13): Batu Cermin, Local Market; Farewell Dinner

Our final day begins with a visit to Batu Cermin Cave, a natural wonder where light dances on ancient stone walls—offering a quiet moment of reflection.

We visit Labuan Bajo’s local market, where vibrant spices, handwoven crafts, and warm smiles fill every corner. A perfect place to find last-minute treasures. As the sun sets, we gather one last time for a farewell dinner—sharing stories, laughter, and memories woven through our journey.

27 Nov. (day 14): Souvenirs, Safe Journey to Denpasar

On our final morning, we make a short stop at a local souvenir center, gathering the last pieces of this unforgettable journey—woven fabrics, natural dyes, and handmade keepsakes to carry home.

Then, it’s time to head to the Labuan Bajo airport for our flight back to Bali, marking the end of this incredible 14-day cultural textile adventure.
